  Unit 1 The world of our senses
  Grammar and usage
  Introduction to noun clauses & Noun clauses beginning with that or if/whether
  Teaching Aims:
   To learn what the noun clause is.
   To learn how to tell noun clauses from other clauses.
   To consolidate the usage of noun clauses by doing exercises.
  Teaching Procedur e:
  Step One: Leading-in
  Give the students some examples  and  let them j udge what kind of noun clauses they are. And see how much they know about noun clauses.
  Step Two: Noun clauses  
  Explain the noun clause and the functions of it.
  在复合句中起名词作用的从句叫名词从句(Noun Clauses)。名词从句的功能相当
  于名词词组, 它在复合句中能担任主语、宾语、表语、同位语、介词宾语等,因
  此根据它在句中不同的语法功能,名词从句又可分别称为主语从句、宾语从句、
  表语从句和同位语从句。
  Noun clauses are used as noun, acting as subject, object, pred icative and appositive in the sentence.
  1. We can use a noun clause as the subject of a sentence.
  That I can pay back the help people give me makes me happy.
  Why they have not left yet is not clear so far.
  We can use it as a p reparatory subject.
  It was good news that everyone got back safely.
  2. We can use a noun clause as the object of a verb/ preposition.

   To learn the passage
   To help students to understand how animals used their own unique senses over the long process of evolution.
   Prepare a TV show about how the animal uses its senses.
  Teaching Procedure:
  Step One: Lead-in
  Asdents what they know about sharks.
  1. What do you think is the most dangerous animals in the ocean?
  2. What do you know about sharks?
  3. What will you do if a shark attac?
  There are nearly 400 species of sharks, which are divided into 8 orders(目)
  and 30 families(科). There are lots of differences in sharks.
  Show them the pictures of sharks and tell them the shark species.
  Work in pairs or groups. Fill in each blank with no more than one word according to the texts (P18-19).
