1. The Explanation of the Overall Designing and Guidance
The text is in the form of a dialogue, so we analyze it as a whole and then separately, making it easier for the students to understand, in order to achieve our reading aims. We also pay much attention to training the students of the reading skills and strategies. And we provide the students with support and equip them with some bacnd knowledge to make a natural transition from input and output. In this way, we can train the students of the language ability through combining reading, speaking and writing in one task.
2. The Bacnd Analysis
Content Analysis:
This lesson is the second period (Reading) in Unit 4 (Making the News) of Module 5. And the topic of this lesson is “news”, which concerning the qualities that a journalist should have and the basic process of covering a piece of news. And the designing of the language skills and language points is also based on this central topic.
Student Analysis:
The students here are living in an age of information and Internet, so they are familiar with the topic in this unit. And they also get some indirect experience of news casting from all kinds of media reporting. This is helpful for the students to understand this unit. This lesson is designed to guide the students to master the micro reading skills through skimming and scanning, and get them to know the responsibilities and qualities of a good journalist, so that they can have a clear instruction for their future study.
3. Aim Analysis
1. After reading the text, the students should get to know the meaning and usage of the following words: delighted, professional, colleague, and deadline. They should also understand some important sentences in the text and know the structure and usage of inversion.
2. The students should be able to use the vocabulary and sentence structures in the text by completing the reading task.
3. Through reading the text, the students should get to know the ability and knowledge a journalist needs. And they should develop the ability of getting information from the passage and dealing with the information.
4. By knowing the advantages and the disadvantages of the job of a journalist, the students should develop a sense of curiosity and attention. And the students should also be inspired to study hard, enrich their knowledge and develop a positive attitude toward other people and life.
4. Teaching Methods
Task-based learning; situational learning; group work learning.
5. The Analysis of the Key Points and Difficult Points in Teaching
1. The Key Points:
1) Through studying the passage, the students should learn how to get the main idea of the passage, analyze the structure, and get useful information.
2) The students should be trained of micro reading sch as skimming and scanning, and they should also develop the ability of reorganizing and transferring information.
2. The Difficult Points:
1) For students in Senior Two, this text is relatively shorter because of its dialogue form. But the students may have difficulty understanding it for there are many new words, especially idioms in it. So we analyze the text as a whole and then separately to make it easier for the students.
2) The students in Senior Two are not familiar with the reading sch as skimming and scanning, so we guide them to practice the skills through the reading task.
