　　Castle del Monte is a unique castle built in the 13th century by Holy Roman Emperor Frederick II, in the Apulia region.
　　It was in 1240 that Emperor Frederick II ordered the governor of Capitanata to build a castle. The construction of Castle del Monte lasted for a decade. It is believed that the castle was designed as a hunting cottage at the beginning. However, several sources suggest that in 1249 the castle was used as a theatre when the wedding of Violante, Fredericghter, took place. In 1256, it was used as a prison by Frederick II’s son.
