3. Compared with the last year, do you think the environment is getting better or worse?
4. What might be the reasons for the changes?
Step3: Sharing information
1. Asdents to talt some environment problems they know about.
2. Picture 1:
(1) What can we see in this picture?
(2) What has happened there?
(3) Can you give other examples to show what will happen when an earthquake takes place?
Picture 2:
(1) In this picture, we can see heavy smoke is pouring out into the sppose the factory were in your neighbourhood, what would you thint it?
(2) Which is more important in your neighborhood, the economic benefits a factory can bring or the health environment? Why?
Picture 3:
(1) What can you see in this picture?
(2) What can cause a volcano to erupt?
(3) Can the erupting of a volcano bring heavy damage to human beings? Can you give an example to show how volcanoes affect people?
Picture 4:
(1) How do you feel when you see piles of rubbish like this?
(2) Do you thinbbish is a big problem for the environment?
(3) In our daily life, how do people deal with everyday rubbish?
(4) Do you think it possible for us to classify rubbish as recyclable or non-recyclable?
3. After share the pictures, have students answer the following three questions:
(1)Look at the pictures above. Which of these problem are caused by nature and which are caused by man?
(2)Can you think of natural disasters that damage the environment?
(3)Can you think of other ways in which people damage the environment?

3. quantity n.数量
in large quantities 大量地
a large quantity of sth = large quantities of sth(其后既可以修饰不可数名词,也可修饰可数名词)
large quantities of+不可数名词/可数名词复数 做主语时,谓语动词都用复数
eg.This product is so cheap that it can be produced in large quantities.
A large quantity of beer was sold.
Large quantities of water are needed for cooling purpose.
4. willing adj.乐意的 be willing to do sth 愿意做某事
I’m perfectly willing to discuss the problem. 我十分乐意讨论这个问题。
5. pump v.涌出 n.抽水机
pump into 向……大量投资 pump……into sb 强行向某人输入
pump out 大量生产 pump up 为……打气
eg.He pumped all his savings into the business.他把全部积蓄都投入了该企业。
6. use up 用尽
eg.Jacp his last dollar to see the movie.
杰克为看电影把他最后的一元钱也花掉了。
drink up 喝光 burn up 烧完 clean up 打扫干净
eat up 吃光 dry up 干涸
eg.All the wood has been burnt up. 木柴全部烧光了。
You should always clean up the room. 你应该经常清理房间。
7. run out 用完;耗完(为不及物短语,不能用于被动语态)主语通常为表示时间、金钱、食物等的名词
run out of 用完(为及物动词,表示主动意义,主语一般为人)
eg.We’d just reached the motorway when the petrol ran out.
We ran out of fuel.
