Information about the class:
There are 30 students in grade1, they are 15 or 16 years old and have been learning English for 3years,all students’ first language is Chinese. As freshman of the high school, they still used to the former materials with many pictures and few words, which is quite different from the high school’s . teacher should patient for them and help them to get used to it.
Main aim:
By the end of the lesson, students will be better able to listen for gist, for specific information, and for detail in the context of earthquakes.
Subsidiary aim:
By the end of the lesson, students will be better able to use the new vocabulary in spoken form in the context of earthquakes.
Personal aim:
Reduce teacher talk time by not repeating or echoing.
Give students short and clear instructions.
Materials (referenced):
1. listening material 1 is downloaded from x8.Ting.com// VOA / special / 201602 / Earthquarvivors-Found-in-Building-in-Taiwan. Mp3
2. listening material 2 is cut and recombined by teacher.
3. Handout including task 1: listen for gist; task 2: answer questions; task 3: decide true or false
4. Words cards are made by teacher, they are storey, collapse, crane, magnitude, unsafe, struce work, to force people to leave.
5. 7 slides PPT are designed by teacher.
Assumptions:
1.Students have already known many kinds of nature disaster such as earthquake, destroy, trap, dig, rescue, calendar. Some students know these words and structures: unsafe, struce efforts, to force people to leave While the following vocabulary are new for all of them: story, collapse, magnitude, crane,
Anticipated difficulties with materials, activities and tasks:
1. Some students may whisper during listening .
2. Some students may feel frustrated on task 3 : listening for detail.
3. .students may not use the new vocabularies in the last tastions:
1. Remind students iet during listening.
2. Give students enough time to read the task before playing the radio.
3. Remind students to try their best to use new vocabulary
