Period 1 Reading IN SEARCH OF THE AMBER ROOM
Teaching aims: Students will be able to
1. learn about the history of the Amber Room;
2. learn to talt cultural relics;
3. practice the skill of guessing words and grasping main idea;
4. review the formation of attributive clause.
Step 1 warming up
1. Look at the pictures of cultural relics, such as the Great Wall, Yuanmingyuan and the Amber Room. Asdents to name them out and talt them.
Reference:
Cultural relics are physical remainders of what different peoples valued in the past and continue to value now. it can also be said that cultural relics are more than works of art, they are symbols of history and the people who lived in the past.
Step 2: reading In search of the amber room
Pre-reading:
1. Do you know what amber is? Have you ever seen a piece of amber? What do you know about it?
Amber is a hard yellowish brown clear substance. It is often sued for jewels and decorative objects.
But can you imagine a room made of amber?
2. Look at the title and the picture then predict what the passage is about.
The passage may talt the brief introduction and the finding of the amber room which was lost.
3. Predict the style of the passage.
