2016高考训练题。阅读理解。
阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出最佳选项。
The first time we started using it, we thought it would just be a bit of fun, a one-time thing.
__A__
“Let’s just give it a try,” my fiancée said. I was a bit nervous, but I knew some of our friends were already into it, and they said it was fine and that I should relax because everyone was doing it.“OK,” I agreed, convinced it would be harmless.
___B___
Before long, we were using it once a week. Then it became twice a week. We went from using it after worsing it in the mornings, and then at lunchtime, too.
Suddenly we reached a point where we were using it every day. Even when I wasn’t using it, I was thinking about using it. ___C___
That’s when I realized the terrible truth. We couldn’t stop.
Dear readers, it shames me to admit it, but I am an addict of online shopping site Taobao.
And I don't think I’m the only one. __D__
I see the telltale signs every where: People with bags under their eyes, clearly exhausted after staying up late browsing items they might one day need (but probably won’t),like the 1940s leather aviator cap I bought in the event I ever need to become an aviator in the 1940s. I see co-worrtively (偷偷摸摸地)sneaking down to the mailroom, eyes darting around suspiciously.
I know what's going through your mind as you read this.
“This isn’t me,” you’re thinking, “I can stop anytime I want.”
But can you?
In China you can get same day delivery for just about anything you buy online. In Australia, my home country, the same item would take weeks to arrive.
“It's the convenience," I said to my fiancée. “That’s why we're hooked.”
But is that convenience worth the risk of wap one morning to discover you’ve been buried alive in masses of brand new women’s shoes?
In my case it’s probably not, especially because I suspect my fiancée won’t realize I'm missing until weeks later, when my credit card stops working and I've long since expired.
So what can you do to battle this terrible addiction?
Never fear, dear readers, because I've created a special five-step list to help you stop online shopping.
Step one: Acknowledge you have a problem. Resist buying adult-sized, Star Wars Stormtrooper outfit on Taobao. You don’t really need it.
Step two: Try not to feel guilty about buying adult-sized, Star Wars Stormtrooper outfit on Taobao.
Step three: Put the computer and smartphone away, get back to nature, and take a walk in the park.
Step four: Try not to feel guilty about buying a new outfit for your walk in the park. I mean, it was on sale, right?
Step five: Buying a book on how to quit Taobao...from Taobao.
On second thoughts, maybe don’t listen to me, after all.

【2016高考训练题】阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C、D)中,选出最佳选项。
Babies don’t learn to talst from hearing sounds. They are lip-readers too. It happens during the stage when a baby’s babbling (咿呀声) gradually changes from unclear voices into that first “mama” or “dada” . The baby in order to do li has to figure out how to shape their lips to make that particular sound they are hearing, according to developmental psychologist David Lewkowicz of Florida Atlantic University, who led the study.
Apparently it doesn’t take them too long to absorb the movements that match basic sounds. By their first birthdays, babies start changing back to loo in the eye again. It offers more evidence that quality face-time with babies is very important for speech development more than, say, turning on the latest baby DVD.
But Lewkowicz went a step further. He and his student Amy Hansen-Tift tested nearly 180 babies, groups of them at ages 4, 6, 8, 10 and 12 months. How? They showed videos of a woman speaking in English or Spanish to babies of English speakers. They found that when the speased English, the 4-month-olds gazed mostly into her eyes. The 6-months-olds spent equal amounts of time looking at the eyes and the mouth. The 8-and 10-month-olds studied mostly the mouth. At 12 months, attention started changing back toward the speaker’s eyes.
But what happened when these babies accustomed to English heard Spanish? The 12-month-olds studied the mouth longer, just linger babies. They needed the extra information to recognize the unfamiliar sounds. That fits with research into bilingualism (双语)that shows babies’ brains adjust themselves to distinguishing the sounds of their native language over other languages in the first year of life.
The continued lip-reading shows the 1-year-olds clearly still are fit for learning. Babies are so hard to study that this is “a fairly heroic data set”, says Duniversity cognitive neuroscientist Greg Appelbaum, who found the research so fascinating that he wants to know more.
1. According to the first paragraph, babies______.
A. might get its voice “mama” by lip-reading
B. learn to talst from hearing the sounds
C. like to figure out how to shape their lips
D. communicate with parents through gestures
2. What is necessary in developing babies’ speech according to Lewkowicz?
A. Playing baby DVD nearby.
B. Teaching babies to read English.
C. Speaking with babies face to face.
D. Speaking different languages in front of babies.
3. Which of the following shows the right change of babies’ eye gaze according to the text?

阅读理解。阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出最佳选项。
The way we do things round here
Some years ago,I was hired by an American bank. I received a letter from the head of the Personnel Department that started,“Dear John,I am quite pleased that you have decided to join us.” That “quite” saddened me. I thought he was saying “we're kind of pleased you decided to join us although I wish we had hired someone else.”Then I discovered that in American English “quite” sometimes means “very”, while in British English it means “fairly”.
So the first lesson about working in other countries is to learn the language and by that I don't just mean the words people speak. It is body language, dress, manners, ideas and so on. The way people do things highlights many of the differences we see between cultures (文化).
Some of these differences may be only on the surface—dress, food and hours of work—while others may be deeper and take longer to deal with. Mostly, it is just a question of getting used to the differences and accepting them, like the climate (气候),while getting on with business.
Some of the differences may be an improvement. People are more polite;the service is better;you ask for something to be done and it happens without having to ask again. However, other differences can be troubling, linctuality (准时). If you invite people to a party at 7 o'clocr guests will consider it polite to turn up exactly on time in Germany, five minutes early in the American Midwest,an hour early in Japan, 15 minutes afterwards in the Up to an hour afterwards in Italy and some time in the evening in Greece. I prefer not to use the word “late” because there is nothing wrong with the times people arrive. It is simply the accepted thing to do in their own country.
本文介绍了作者所感受到的文化差异。
1. The author was unhappy as mentioned in Paragraph 1 because he thought ________.
A. the American bank didn't thinch of him
B. the American bank might hire another person
C. it's difficult to get used to American culture
D. it's easy to misunderstand Americans
答案:A。推理判断题。由第一段中“That “quite” saddened me”.可以推断出作者认为这家美国银行不重视他。
2.The underlined word “highlights” in Paragraph 2 probably means ________.
A. encourages B. helps to narrow
