【归纳】 ① 作动词，意为“奋斗，挣扎，努力”；② 作名词，意为“搏斗，斗争”。

【延伸】 expand 表示向各个方向“扩展”，多用在宽度、体积、面积、规模等方面的扩大；也表示“扩大知识（兴趣、业务等）”。 如：
The street has been expanded. 街道拓宽了。
【辨析】 enlarge 表示尺寸、规模的扩大，尤指“扩大房屋（场所）等，增加经验，扩大视野，放大照片”等。如：
The picture has been enlarged. 照片已经放大了。

3． rid
【归纳】 作及物动词，意为“摆脱，解除……的负担，从……中消除”，常与of 搭配。如：
He was finally able to rid himself all financial worries. 他终于能使自己摆脱所有的财政负担。
【延伸】 get rid of 摆脱，去掉，除去；注意：get rid of 用于被动语态时， of 不可省略；rid
