Step1.Warming-up (1min.)
T: Can we begin our class?
Ss:Yes, we can.
T: Good afternoon, boys and girls!
Ss:Good afternoon, teacher!
T: First, please allow me to introduce myself. I am from Pingyang Middle school, my English name is Mariam , I am very glad to give you a lesson here.
T: Newspaper is quite familiar to us , right ?
Ss : Yes.
T :Do you know how a newspaper is made?/Who are needed to make a newspaper?
Ss: Reporter…
Step2.Reading (24min.)
T: The staff of a newspaper is made up of many different people.
What are they? What are their jobs?
Task1: Scanning
T :Please read the passage quickly and answer the two questions above.
T :Have you finished reading ?
(No one said “yes”.)
T : Well, two more minutes.
T:Now stop reading. Who’d like to answer these two questions?
S1: Reporter
T : What else?
S2: senior editor
S3: news desk editor …
T : What are their jobs?
(No volunteers, and no one can give me correct answers.)
S4: The reporter(Zhou Yang) interviewed a famous film star to get the information for his story.
S5: A senior editor read the article and checked the evidence.
(After I direct them to read paragraph 3 and they will find the answers in the paragraph.)
T&Ss: The copy editor began to edit the piece and design the main headline and smaller heading.
(I guide them to read out the answers together.)
S6: The chief editor read the article and approved it.
(Most Ss can’t answer the question, so I together with them read some of the answers.)
T :What does “approve” mean here?
Ss:赞成
T: What did the news desk editor do ?
T&Ss: The news desk editor took the story and began to work on all stories and photos until all the pages were set.
Task2 Careful reading
T: Read the passage carefully and finish the chart for the writing and printing process for an article.
S7: You go to an interview to get the information for your story.
T&Ss :You do some research to see if the story is true or not.
S8: You begin to write the story using the notes from the interview.
T&Ss:: You give the article to the senior editor to check and a copy editor to do editing.
S9: The article is given to a native speaker to polish the style.
S10: The article is approved by the chief editor.
T : After you read the passage for several times, do you know the meaning of “approve” now?
Ss : 赞成
T :We ‘d better say “批准”.
