  Adopt to a new environment
What do you think the best way to adopt a new environment that has a different culture for a foreigner? Well, I think it’s to develop social relationships with members of the new culture, and in order to have a better munication with them, it’s not enough just speak their language fluent, but we also have to know the personality of the country and the way that people talking. Today I want to share some of my culture shock experiences with you, and I hope those experiences can help you to have a little closer look of the personality of Americans and the way that people talking.
The first thing I want to talk happened at the first day I attended to USC as its student, which just several weeks ago. A friend and I went to the cafeteria to have lunch. There was a middle size? guy caught my attention. He carried a big backpack and wore a huge headphone. He was singing as he stopped in the front of a food counter. It seemed that the music he was listening reached the ax. He closed his eyes, turned to another side and opened his arms while his sound bee more and more loud until almost yelled! Everybody turned to look at him, and he seemed still enjoyed in that song. During a short quiet moment, a lady who sat in a wheelchair beside the table I sat suddenly moved her body hardly and yelled: I like it! I like it! The guy who shared the same table with us looked at me said: “Oh man, it is amazing, isn’t it?” I was still in shock and replied him a smile after couple seconds. This experience is unforgettable for me. That’s the first time that I feel the free and open personality that people have in this culture so strongly.
The second thing I want to talk is a conversation that I heard between one of my ates who e from Brazil and an American in German class. The Brazilian said something like he thinsh is not going to be the next president. The American disagree with him. So Brazilian began to list his reasons to persuade the American. But the American just said: ok, everyone.
Mirror for Man:  Actions and Thoughts Follow Culture
In a world where everyone has experienced "the same poignant life experiences, such as birth, helplessness, illness, old age, and death," it is incredible to think of the number of ways that peoples can go through these events in life. It is most mon that their attitudes and responses are influenced by their environment and society. As Clyde Kluckhohn had explained in "Mirror for Man", the best explanation for any human action is the "concept of culture." One cannot clearly define this idea, but through the parison of two different groups of people hopefully one can better understand the meaning of culture. By paring Vietnam and the United States, two very contrasting nations, one can see the force behind the concept of culture in shaping people's lives.
In terms of education, the similarities between the two countries are few. Both aim at improving their people's lives, and yet the method in which this is achieved differs greatly. Vietnam, a small country with a large population, has to make do with the lack of technology. It stresses hard work rather than the use of machines. Children are encouraged to do math mentally rather than depend on calculators. As a result, the Vietnamese people do not consider it a sacrifice that they should lead a hard life. Also, their education emphasizes morality rather than independent thinking. Therefore, most Vietnamese children would never think of leaving their families before marriage, unlike the Americans, who would leave for college right after high school or move out of their parents' house to live with friends. The Americans would also prefer to make their lives as easy as possible, whieans that rather than adding mentally, they would turn to an adding machine or a puter. Their two ways of thinking differ as a result of different education methods.
