Boonit 3 Under the sea
How to complain politely and
write a letter of complaint
Teaching aims:
1 to teach students related knowledge about a complaint
2 to teach students to make a complaint orally and write a letter of complaint
3 to lead the students to change themselves first instead of complaining others and to lead a happy life without complaints
Teaching steps:
Step 1 warming-up and lead-in
Students learn two ways of making a complaint by watching a video, one of which is rude while the other is polite.
Step 2 learning sentences used to complain through listening
Students learn the sentences by listening to two dialogues about complaining about a whale watching tour
Step 3 map a dialogue with the expressions and perform it out
Students work with their desk-mates to map a dialogue based on a situation (textbook, page 27, situation 2). They can have the sentences learnt before as reference.
Step 4 learning about the structure of a letter of complaint
Students learn how to write a letter of complaint by reading two sample letters and summarize the structure with the help of a mind map.
Step 5 writing a letter of complaint
Students write a letter of complaint based on the same situation. They can have the sentences from the dialogues and letters for reference.
Step 6 homework and conclusion
Students will make a dialogue and write a letter of complaint based on the other two situations (textbook, page27, situation 1 and 3). The teacher concludes the lesson and teaches students to change themselves instead of complaining others.
