  (一)宾语从句
  (1)宾语从句中引导词的选择。宾语从句的引导词that只起连接作用,没有实际意义,不充当任何成分,一般可省略。但当that引导的宾语从句有两个以上时,则从第二个从句开始,以下的that通常都不可省略。其它连接词都有各自具体的意义,并在从句中充当一定的成分。例如:
  She doesn’t know (that) her father is seriously ill. 她不知道她父亲病得很严重。
  Can you tell me where we are going for our holiday this summer?
  你能告诉我今年夏天我们要去哪儿度假吗?
  (注意:当doubt作肯定句的谓语时,其宾语从句用whether或if引导,作否定句的谓语时,用that 引导。如:
  I doubt whether / if he is honest. I don’t doubt that he is honest.)
  (2) 宾语从句的语序。宾语从句的语序应为陈述句的语序,即:主语 +谓语 + 宾语……。例如:
  Can you tell me how I can get to the railway station?
  你可以告诉我怎么去火车站吗?
  (3)宾语从句的时态。如果主句的时态是一般现在时,宾语从句可以用相应的任何时态;如果主句的时态是一般过去时,宾语从句只能用相应的过去时态;如果宾语从句所陈述的是客观真理,其时态常用一般现在时。例如:
  I don’ t think that it will rain tomorrow. 我认为明天不会下雨。
  He asked me if I were a teacher. 他问我是不是老师。The old man told his grandson that the moon moves around the earth.
  老人告诉他的孙子月亮绕着地球转。
  (二)表语从句
  (1) 表语从句是位于be, seem, appear等系动词后面的从句。能引导宾语从句的连接词一般都能引导表语从句。除此之外,because和as if也能引导表语从句。例如:
  The problem is when they can get there.问题是他们什么时候能到那儿。
  It looks as if it is going to rain. 看起来好像要下雨。
  (2)if 与whether均意为“是否”,但引导表语从句时,只能用whether,不能用if。例如:The problem is whether we can replace her. 问题是我们能否替换她。
  (3)疑问词充当连接词,引导表语从句时,表语从句要用陈述句语序。例如:
  It is said that that is where the famous singer was born.
  据说,那儿就是那位著名的歌星出生的地方。
