Teaching aims:
1. To talt ancient civilizations in the world.
2. To talt the differences and similarities in between China and the West.
Teaching procedures:
Step 1. Lead in and present the new teaching material.
Asdents to answer the following questions:
1. Do you know the Four Ancient Countries with highest civilization in the world? What are they?
2. What are the two most important ancient civilizations in Europe?
3. Do you know about the ancient civilizations in America? If so, give some examples.
Check the students’ answers.
Step 2. Asdents to look at the four pictures and read the sentences below each picture. Answer the following questions about these pictures.
1. In what countries were these ancient magnificent structures built?
2. Which of them have disappeared and which of them remain?
3. Can you give some other examples of ancient structures in the world?
Ask some students to answer these questions and check their answers.

arrange vt. 安排, 筹划, 整理, 布置 。常见的结构有：
1） arrange + n. + for + sb. 为某人安排……。如：
The secretary arranged an appointment for me with the manager.
2） arrange + for + sb. / sth. + to do 安排……做……。如：
I’ve arranged for him to meet her.
3） arrange + (with + sb.) + to do (与人)约定干……。如：
I arranged to meet him at 6 o’clock.
4） arrange + that clause (从句用should + v.) 商定……, 安排……。如：
He arranged that the meeting (should) be put off for a week.
found 意思是“建立; 创建; 创办” 。如:
Their marriage was founded on love and mutual respect.
The town was founded by English settlers in 1790.
注意found; form; organize的区别:
organize组建或筹备某一个组织或机构；found指“建立、成立”，强调打下基础或创建，仍有待进一步发展和完善；form指“构成、形成”，强调所构成的东西必须具有外形或具有一定的结构或包含设计工作。如：
Let’s organize a volleyball team.
This company was founded in 1872.
His character was formed in his childhood．
house 作动词, 意思是“提供住处; 供给房子用, 安置，收容”。如:
Those caves may house snakes or some other wild animals.
The Military Museum houses many old weapons.
He is trying hard to feed and house his family.
