　　Teaching aims:
　　  To help students gain some information about ancient civilizations
　　  To get students to master the general idea of the text
　　  To enable students to learn how to read diaries
　　  To arouse students’ awareness of protecting the civilization in the world
　　Teaching difficulties:
　　  Finding specific information according to the instructions in Reading Strategy
　　  Gaining a good understanding of the reading text
　　Teaching procedures:
　　Step 1 Lead- in
　　  Show students several pictures and have them talt the disasters in Japan.
　　  Play a short video for students.
　　  Lead in words and phrases through a talk with students based on the video.
　　  Have students read the words and phrases together.
　　Step 2 Skimming 
　　  Get students to read the text very quickly and tell what it is made up of.
　　  Have students read the text again and summarize the general idea of the text.
　　  Enable students to focus their attention on Reading Strategy to find out how to read diaries.
　　Step 3 Scanning
　　  Put what students have learnt in Reading Strategy into practical use.
　　  Asdents to answer some questions in the form of a competition.
　　Step 4 Comparison
　　  Review the text through a comparison of the two places.
　　Step 5 Discussion
　　  What should we do about the lost civilizations?
