  一、阅读理解
The old Chinese saying “as happy as spending the New Year” might be outdated now in the busy modern world. The Spring Festival is regarded as the most important festival for Chinese people and an occasion for all family members to get together, like Christmas in the West. But many traditional customs accompanying the Spring Festival, however, have weakened in practice.
Setting off fireworks was once the most typical custom of the Spring Festival. People thought the sputtering(爆裂) sound could help drive away evil spirits. However, the activity has been completely or partially forbidden in big cities for years as the government has tarity, noise and pollution factors into consideration.
“In recent years, some cities have begun to allow people to light fireworring limited hours at the Spring Festival, surrendering to(屈从于) public demand. Respecting folk traditions is a gesture of respect toward public opinion,” said Zhou Xing, a folklore(民俗) researcher.
“As people gain more income and it becomes easier to buy daily goods, the New Year holiday is just like any other. After long workdays, many people use the New Year holiday to take a rest, rather than visiting friends and neighbors. The process of making and enjoying the family dinner on Spring Festival Eve is the most important thing. However, many families would like to eat out to save time and energy,” said Li Shunzhi, a resident of Harbin, Heilongjiang.
“I enjoy the holidays very much in the countryside. My family has been preparing for the Spring Festival more than two weeks before the holiday, cleaning the house, buying holiday goods and decorating the house with paper cuttings. On New Year’s Eve, the whole family stays up to see the New Year in, and in the days to follow, a series of activities such as lion dancing, dragon lantern dancing, lantern festivals and temple fairs will be held. Without the ancient traditions, the holiday is nothing to us,” said Zhang Hui, from Hebei.

  一、阅读理解。
May  Day, the first day of May, is celebrated as a spring festival in many countries. It marks the approach of summer.
The English developed their May Day festival from the Roman festival called Floralia. In the festival of Floralia, the Romans gathered flowers to honor the goddess of spring, Flora. In the Middle Ages, May Day became the favorite holiday of many English villages. People gathered flowers to decorate their homes and churches, sang spring songs and chose a king and a queen of May. Villagers danced around a tall pole fixed upright in the ground, called a maypole, each holding the end of a ribbon attached to the top of the pole. They tied the ribbons around the pole until it was covered with bright colors. They collected dew(露水)on May Day morning and washed their faces with it because they believed that the dew on the day had the magic power to regain youth.
Nowadays in Britain people no longer attach great importance to the day, but in some towns and villages people still celebrate it by choosing the May Queen and dancing around the maypole. May Queen is a girl selected as the most beautiful girl on May Day. She is usually crowned with flowers and often driven in procession through the street. In the United States, the day has never been celebrated with the same enthusiasm as in Britain. But in many American towns and cities, children celebrate the day with dancing and singing. They often gather flowers in handmade paper baskets and hang them on the doorknobs of the homes of their friends’ and neighbors’ on May Day morning. At May Day parties, children select May Queen, dance around the maypole, and sing May Day songs.

  一、阅读理解。
Those who claim bananas are fattening argue that bananas cause the body to make lots of insulin(胰岛素), and insulin causes fat growth.
How much insulin we produce is related to how fast food becomes sugar in our bloodstream. How can you know if food makes a lot of sugar quickly? The glycemic index(血糖指数), or GI rating tells us.  Foods with GI scores above 75 are considered high-GI foods, leading to faster sugar development. Bananas have a GI of 62, which is considered low.
Weight loss can be a struggle for anyone,  but it is especially hard for diabetics(糖尿病患者). A study looked at how the starch from unripe bananas affected the weight of a group of obese diabetics.  After four weeks of a diet high in bananas, diabetics lost significantly more weight than on a  control diet. They also saw improvements in insulin sensitivity from the banana diet.
What’s more, bananas have been shown to cut risks of strokes, diabetes and cancers.(Bananas are the most powerful fruit for lowering the risk of kidney cancer.) Bananas are also a rich source of fiber, which has been shown to help weight  loss. Bananas that still have some green on the skin are even higher in fiber.
Skins from green bananas can be taken and, after removing the stem and dark tip, cut into small pieces 2-3 inches long and 1/2 inch wide. These pieces can be made into a tea or added to a dish. When you eat the skins, be sure you are eating organic bananas. The flesh of regular bananas is low in pesticides, but the skins are not.
  【解题导语】 本文反驳了“吃香蕉会使人发胖”这一错误观点,告诉大家香蕉不会使身体分泌很多胰岛素而导致脂肪增加,相反,香蕉对身体健康有着诸多好处。
1.What conclusion can we draw from Paragraphs 1 & 2?
A.Bananas are likely to make people fat.
B.Insulin determines the amount of sugar.
C.Low-GI foods can turn into sugar more slowly.
D.The faster the food becomes sugar, the less insulin.
