T: good morning!ladies and gentlemen. Welcome to my class. Today we are going to learn the vocabulary in Unit 1 cultrual relices. You have already known I come from Xinjiang. So at the beginning of the class, let’s enjoy a piece of video about Xinjiang. While whatching it, thint what words can you use to describe Xinjiang?

T: these are my students in Xinjiang, when they knew I would give you a lesson, they felt very excited. So they wrote a letter to you, let’s listen what they would say. Please remember after listening to it, tell me what attracts you most in Xinjiang? Understand?

T: In order to have a better understanding of the letter, let’s read the letter and guess the meaning of the mew words in the context.

指着黑板问: what does entrance mean?
Ss: 入口
T: yes, right. But how do you know? Go back to the sentence where entrance is. Read it please.
It means the ss’ introduction will become a door to know about Xinjiang. The second “amazed”, , also , go back to the sentences, it means you will be very surprised at the surprising places of interests. The third “rare”, the sentences which means the wild swans are not often seen or hardly seen. The forth one “survive”, in the sentences, it means to continue to live after an accident or disaster. “survivror” is it’s noun which means the person who continue to live. “survivror”comes from survive. It is call “word formation”<构词法> 翻页到第三张幻灯片。 For emample, the verb is “enter”, it’s noun is “entrance”. It is word formation.. now fill in the blanks with the right forms of the words, according to the words above.

T: if we want to enlarge our vocabulary, we can remember the words according to the word formation. And now let’s do some exercises , try to use word formation.. 2minutes for you ,if necessary, you can talk with your deasmates. Let’s do the first as example. Here we need a noun, design, designer.

Dear friends in Xi’an,
We r teacher, Miss Li, will give you a lesson. We all feel excited, because we think it a good chance to introduce our hometown. Maybe our introduction will become the entrance for you to know about Xinjiang.
Xinjiang is a good place with many cultural relics, and 43 ethnic minorities(少数民族) enrich cultures here. If you have a chance to enter Xinjiang, you will be amazed at the amazing places of interest. Among them, Bayinbuluke Grassland(巴音布鲁克大草原), the most beautiful painting painted by nature, is well worth visiting. There you can take a close look at wild swans, which are rarely seen. The reason why swans become rare was that people didn’t value them and killed them. So only a small number of them survived. These survivors are valuable to us. Nature is a great designer and he designs a wonderful picture in Xinjiang. Welcome to Xinjiang.

Asdents to enjoy a piece of video about Xinjiang. After watching it, asdents the question: what words can you use to describe Xinjiang?
Step3: Listening and reading
1.Listen to a letter from students in Xinjing. After that asdents a question: What attracts you most in Xinjiang?
2.Asdents to read the letter to have a better understanding of it and try to guess the meaning of the words in the letter according to the context. Then check their understanding about these words, and paraphrase them.
Step4: The methodology----word formation and guessing the word in the context
Task1: Get students to look for the other forms of the target words in the letter above. Then check the answers.
Task2: Asdents to use the target words by filling in the blanks according to word formation. If necessary, students can talk with their desk mates.
Step5: The methodology---- antinomy and lexical chunks
