教学目标
The main tasdents will be helped to improve their reading ability through fast reading and careful reading and can obtain some information about Lijiang and Naxi culture briefly.
Language focus: In this period , students will learn the following words and expressions : varied; tropical; run ; costume; hieroglyphic; put a spell on and review the using of v-ed form as adverbials.
Language skills: In this period, students will be guided to use fast reading and careful reading to obtain and analyze the needed information.
Learning strategies:
1. Cognitive strategy: Students are guided to pay attention to the first one or two sentences of each paragraph and catch the key words to guess what is talt in the following part and get the main idea.
2. Communication strategy: Students are encouraged to work in pairs to mare of their answers to the question.
Affection and Culture: Students will be cultivated to hold a positive attitude towards cultural differences in China and show respect for the different cultures and are proud of China .

Step one Lead-in
1. Introduce the topic by asdents questions “It’s a fine day for travelling.Do you like travelling? When you travel , what scenery do you like best?” And then show pictures of natural scenery , man-made scenery and cultural scenery to students. And make some comments on each scenery.
2. Introduce the topic Simon Wakefiled’s Yunnan Diary by asestions and describing the old town Lijiang to students .”What do you know about Lijiang?”“In 1997, Lijiang was listed as the World Cultural Heritage.”
3. Let students predict what will be talt in Simon’s Yunnan Diary
Students are thinking about what they will enjoy most . And with teacher’s comment on every kind of scenery, students are amazed at the power of nature and people.
Students are wondering what Lijiang looks like and are eager to read the passage.

Para.1
Asdents questions “When you visit someplace, what’s your feeling about the scenery?” “What’s Simon’s feeling about Yunnan’s landscape?””Why is he astonished?””How varied is the landscape ?” And learn with students through maps , pictures and descriptions in Para.1.
Para.2
Let students appreciate the old town through two angles: See from above and go into the town. Know what the old town is like. Asdents what’s their feeling about the old town after reading. And let students read these descriptive sentences as if they were traveling the old town.
Part 2 Para 3,4&5
1. Asdents “Do you want to explore the old town?”and recall what Naxi culture talt. Asdents three questions by presenting three key words.”Why is Naxi women special? Why is Naxi language unusual ?and Why is Naxi music famous among Naxi culture?” and let students read Para.3-5 and work in pairs.
2. While checking answers, the teacher uses “control” to explain the meaning of “run”and shows pictures about Naxi women’s costume and the Naxi language “love”. Let students guess the meaning of the Naxi language.
3. Introduce one sentence pattern”v-ed form as adverbials” to students and let students do one practice.
