Analysis of the content:
This is the first teaching period of this unit, Warm-up gives three pictures to help students get to know some musical instruments and Ballet. These pictures will help them to discuss what kinds of music and dance they know and like. Then they listen to the extracts about rhythm and different art forms: Beijing Opera, Rock ‘n’ Roll, Folk Dancing and Ballet.This part is designed to help students recall their bacnd knowledge about music, Bejing Opera and dance and prepare students for the study of the whole unit.
The central part of this period is the reading passage with the name of Performance Alanis --A True Performer. It talt a Canadian rock singer and song writer and something about how she performed at a live concert which showed she was a true performer.

1. To master the new words and expressions concerning music and dance in this unit :classical, pop , folk, ja ‘n’roll, disco, folk dance, ballet, brilliant, fantastic, disappointing, extraordinary, boring, effect, album, performance, fan, base, award, anger,system, audience, perform, disappoint, extraordinary, unclear, extremely, creative, powerful, throughout, be used to, sing along to, finish with, be greatly impressed by.
2. To further understand the grammar: Types of Adverbial Clauses(time, concession, cause, result and purpose).
3. To improve students'reading ability by scanning and skimming the passage,
4. To develop students'communicative ability.
5. To read and understand a concert review.
Process and methods
1. Listen to a song in a live concert to arouse studente'interest.
2. Before reading the text, show some materials and some questions related to Morissette to help students better understand the text.
3. While reading the text, the whole language approach is fully made use of to help students form the overall comprehension of the text.
4. After reading the text. students can have a deep understanding of the Canadian singer--Alanis by discussing with each other in a cooperative way.
Emotion,attitude and value
1. To develop students’ interest in music and performance
2. To cultivate students ability of appreciating the performances of Alanis in the live concert
3, To help studentsn have a right attitude towards the superstar.
4. To have students experience the excitment of a live concert while reading the passage.
Teaching methods
1. Problem—based learning
Problem—based learning is a student-centred method, in which students learn about a suject in the complex context. Working in groups, students identify what they have known, what they need to know, and how and where to get the new information that may lead to the resolution of a problem. Thc instrutor is a facilitator of learning who provides appropriate situations in the process, for example, asking some difficult questions, providing appropriate resources and organizing class discussions, as well as designing students' assessments.
2. Active learning
Madents be active in learning. Students learn by making, writing, designing, creating, and solving. Encourage students to suggest approaches to the problem.
