  Making a booklet on keeping fit

  【Teaching objectives】
  At the end of the lesson, the students are expected to:
  1. retell most of the content in paras3-5 using the key words and phrases given
  2. list many possible ways to keep fit for both students and teachers
  3. deliver a mini-speech about how to keep fit
  4. make a booklet on keeping fit
  【Teaching Procedure】
  Step 1  Lead in with a questionnaire
  T: Hello, everyone! Today, at this particular moment, I really really want to as a question, and my question is——(attract Ss' interests by making a mysterious facial expression), “How are you today?”
  S: What?
  T: What? Is there anything wrong with the question? Why give me such a looally, this question reflects my concern to all of you. I hope all of you can be healthy everyday. But are you healthy?
  S: Yes!
  T: Really?Let's finish this questionnaires first. After this, you will see whether you are healthy or not.

  T: How much did you get? Whoever got more than 30 is considered healthy, and whoever got between 5 and 30 can only be regarded as sub-healthy. Who is healthy?Please raise your hand.
  (Nobody put up their hands)
  S: We are sub-healthy.
  T: I'm so sorry to hear that. However, don't worry, because today I'm gonna help you. We fill find the way to keep healthy today. And also, we are gonna help others to keep healthy by making a booklet, so that everyone around us can become happy and healthy everyday. OK?
  S: Absolutely!
  T: Do you know What is a booklet? (tat a booklet sample half done by a student) a booklet is just like this, covering 3 parts: cover, questionnaire, contents.. It is pretty much easy for you to make the cover, because all you have to do is to draw and write down some big letters; the questionnaire is also easy to handle, for I have already designed one for you, and you just need to add or change some of the questions. The most difficult part is the content, which is our today's task. Now, do you know how to make a booklet?
  S: Yes. (with weak voice)
  T: You can tat a piece of paper, and fold it into three equally large pieces. The first page is the cover, and you can design it to your own imagination. The rest part is a questionnaire and the content. Now do you know how to make a booklet?
  S: Yes! (very loudly)
  (This part aims to attract Ss' attention and introduce today's task. The questionnaire is specially designed with my appealing and real questions, and Ss all feel it their must to keep healthy and help others.)
  Step 2 Fast and Detailed reading
  (Provide the 1st material: an article form a magazine about how to keep fit)
  1. Have Ss guess the ways to keep fit suggested by the author
  2. Scan the text to find how many ways are mentioned by the author
  Answer:Three. Healthy eating (para 3) ; Exercise (para 4); Have enough sleep (para 5)
  3. Conduct a detailed reading to para3, 4 and 5
  Present 2 questions for para 3: What makes a healthy diet? Why should we drink water?
  Present 2 questions for para 4: What does experts suggest? Why should we exercise?
  Present 1 question for para 5: Why is enough sleep important for our health?
  4. Consolidation by retelling most of the content in para3, 4 and 5 based on the key words and
  phrases given on the screen:
  1) eat properly:
  give your body the energy it needs, skip meals, feel tired, a healthy diet,  r system clean,
  improve your skin, healthy hair
  2) exercise regularly:
  experts suggest that, walking and riding your bint, give up sport, have no time
  left,surprised to learn, chemicals, feel peaceful and relaxed, increase the ability to concentrate,
  sleep better
  3) have enough sleep:
  prepare you for the day to come, as a matter of fact, loss of sleep , look tired, gain weight
  5. Skim the first, second and the last paragraphs to find the main idea for each paragraph
  Para 1: You can feel better, look better, and have more energy if you eat the right food and  
  exercise regularly.
