The world has changed and being intelligent isn't normally equal to being a successful person. Look at the example of the blue whale:It has a huge brain, but it still doesn't know how to avoid whalers or use its large size and weight to deal with those who try to use their body for profit. Scientists hold an opinion that the blue whale just likes some highly intelligent people who fail to succeed. Those highly intelligent people can't succeed in life because they can't communicate well with the world around them.
Intelligence is a word in life that ma thin are better than others. Intelligence can blind these very people from how others view them. These people also think that the route to power and success results purely from intelligence and they sometimes live in a fantasy world that they create by their supposed brain power.
This is a distance that develops whether or not they realize it and sometimes,a person can be disliked simply because of his or her intelligence. This distance is sometimes so far apart that it gets to the position where they can't listen to each other. One side thinks the other is stupid and the other thinks he/she is haughty(傲慢的).And most of the time it is the intelligent people who lose themselves in this situation. They become unpopular with most of the people around them. This affects them in whatever they do and sooner or later they will lose their confidence.
It doesn't help that they get a culture shock—especially when they leave college and realize success and richness don't always and sometimes never come naturally with intelligence. While some might think this is a dramatic picture to paint,it is sometimes the end result of some people.
1.The example of “the blue whale” is used to show ______.
A.communication is more important than intelligence
B.human beings are always more intelligent than animals
C.humans should have the sense of protecting animals
D.the blue whale is the largest animal in the world
2.Those supposed intelligent people often believe that ______.
A.they should make their life the same with others

If you are a college student, probably you are greatly stressed when the final exams are coming. University students are good at coming up with ways to cope with the stress of college life. But some students at a college in Canada have started a new trend that is family-friendly, opening a puppy room for students during finals week (December 4-6)
The National Post reports that for three days during finals weedents at Dalousie University can spend some time with lovely dogs, which is being brought in by Therapeutic Paws of Canada. “It is something that people need right now because students are superstressed,” Michael Kean, an environmental science student who first proposed the idea, told me the Post.
After the student union first advertised the event on its Face book page, the news of the Puppy Room spread quickly across social networking sites. “Our expectations are pretty high right now,” Gavin Jardine, vice president of student life at Dalhousie told the Post. “We had 1800 shares, thousands of ‘likes’. It attracted a lot of attention on Twitter as well. It spread as quickly as a virus.”
Don LeBlance of Therapeutc Paws of Canada said all the dogs attending the event come from loving homes and enjoy the company of people. A number of different breeds will be on hand to interact with students who sign up to visit the Puppy Room. And buzz from the Dalhousie Puppy Room has spread so quickly that LeBlance says a half dozen universities have already called about staging similar events for their students.
So, is there any actual evidence to support using guest dogs to reduce the stress of busy college students? “If you do any research at all about the benefits of using pets, you will find out quite quickly that it lowers blood pressure,” LeBlanc said. “It certainly made a huge difference in my life when I got a dog.”

  阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C、D)中,选出最佳选项。
Doctors have a new weapon in the battle against obesity (过度肥胖) — a talking plate that tells people not to eat too quickly. The Mandometer monitors the amount of food leaving the plate, and tells users, “Please eat more slowly.”
The £1,500 Swedish device is to be used in a National Health Service plan to help hundreds of obese families lose weight. It comes in two parts — a scale placed under the plate and a small computer screen showing a graphic(图表) of the food gradually disappearing as the user eats. A red line on the screen shows the user’s eating speed, while a blue line shows a healthy rate. If the user eats too fast, the red line angles away from the blue one, warning him or her to ease off. If the lines deviate (偏离) too much, the computer voice comes on, and the  screen flashes the message “Are you feeling full yet?” to remind users to thint whether they have had enough.
Britain has an increasingly serious obesity problem, with one in four adults and one in seven children classed as obese. After a recent trial using the device, experts believe teaching obese people to eat more slowly will help them know when they are full. Around 600 families with at least one obese parent and child (aged five or older) were targeted in the project by Bristol University, along with GPs and nurses.
Professor Julian Hamilton-Shield, who is leading the plan, says obese children and adolescents using the Mandometer ate from 12 to 15 percent less per meal at the end of the 12-month trial. Six months after they stopped using the device they still ate less, and continued to lose weight. “It will be a powerful tool to help families retrain their eating habits,” he says.
  1. What does the red line on the screen show?
  A. A healthy rate of eating. B. Too much food is left.
  C. The user’s eating speed. D. The user is full.
