3. After acting the play, the students will be able to practice their acting skills and arouse their activeness. And they will be able to analyze the emotions of the main characters;
4. After some multiple choices and relative exercises, the students will be able to improve their skills in reading comprehension;
5. After a discussion, the students will be able to solve some practical growing pains in real life .
Teaching procedures:
Step 1: Lead-in
T: Have you ever seen any English TV show about teens and the common family life problems ? Today, at first I will show you an English TV show. After watching it , please tell me the characters of the play .Who do you like best ? Let’s watch it .
Play part of the TV show ,GROWING PAINS for the student .
T : It ’s a nice English TV show , isn’t it ? Would you like to act an E nglish short play ? Maybe it sounds to be a bit challenging . But we can have a try . At first ,we can learn how to read an Eng lish play , then you can act it out . Today we will read HOME ALONE which is also an English play . Let’s enjoying it by reading .
Step 2: Fast reading for g eneral ideas
1. Play reading strategy .From Unit 1, we have learnt two of the basic reading skills, skimming and scanning. When reading different styles and formats of articles, readers usually use different ways of reading in order to know about the main ideas of the article within the shortest time. Can you tell me how to read an English play? Pay attention to the tips for reading a play on page 23 . I’d like some of you to tell the differences between reading a play and reading a normal text .
2. The characteristics of a play . A play usually consists of several acts. Each act can have several
