  Warming up and Reading 教学对象
  (一) The analysis of the teaching material
  This unit regards festivals as a topic, introduces the kinks, origins, significance and people’s activities and customs. The aim of this unit is to let students compare various Western festivals and culture with Chinese festivals and culture and find common characters, diversity and national uniqueness of festive culture by discussing and studying the names, origins and celebration ways around the world. Thus, the students’ understanding to various cultural festivals is enhanced, their social cultural bacnd is expanded, and cross-cultural knowledge is increased.
  (三)Teaching goals
  1) Knowledge goals:
  a. Get students to learn the useful new words and expressions in this part: beauty, harvest, starve, origin, religious, ancestor, Mexico, feast, bone, belief, poet, arrival, gain, independence, gather, agriculture, award, rooster, admire, energetic, Easter, clothing, Christian, custom, take place, in memory of, dress up, play a trick on, look forward to, day and night, as though, have fun with
  b. Let students learn about history and basic knowledge of festivals both in and out of China.
  2) Ability goals:
  a) Develop students’ reading ability and let them learn different reading skills.
  b) Enable students to talt festivals and celebrations.
  3) Emotional goals:
  a. Stimulate students’ love for their own national culture and customs.
  b. Develop students’ sense of cooperative learning.
