  Learn A Foreign Language
  Time allocation:   The second period
  In the first period, we have done some reading comprehension and concluded the main idea of each paragraph. The difficult language points and difficult sentences in the text have also been dealt with.
  Teaching aims:
  1.Relieve students’ anxiety in learning English and help them gain confidence in learning English.
  2.Share successful foreign language learners’ experience, help students adopt successful learners’ study methods and skills and develop their own learning habits and skills.
  Teaching procedures:
  Step One: Lead-in:
  Purpose of this step: Talt students’ difficulties in learning English and arouse their interest in this lesson while watching students busy learning English in the video.
  ---As a student of Senior Grade Three, how many years have you been learning English?
  ---What do you think of English learning?
  ---What difficulties do you have in learning English?
  Ask some students to express their opinions and talt their difficulties.
  ---Do all of you think it difficult to learn English?
  ---Compared with Chinese, English or Chinese, which is more difficult to learn?
  NO, it is not true. Today we will read about the fact.
  Now let’s read the text: Learn A Foreign Language: Twice As Hard?
  Step Two Reading:
  Purpose of this step: Change students’ view that English is difficult to learn by comparing learning our mother tongue with learning a foreign language. Help students to develop their own learning habits and study skills by sharing successful language learners’ characteristics.
  I. Give students eight minutes to read the text carefully to find the answers to these questions:
  1. Which can be more efficient , learning a foreign language or learning our mother tongue? Why?
  2. What do successful language learners have in common?
  3. As an average student, how can we become a successful language learner?
  II. Check the answers.

  Now let’s look at the form comparing learning a foreign language with learning our mother tongue.

  Time All day long for 5 years
  A few hours a week in a few years’ time
  Help Few parents give language lessons We have textbooks, teachers and classmates to help us
  1.How do we learn our mother tongue? How about learning of foreign language?
  2.How much time does it take to master our mother tongue? How about learning a foreign language?
  3.Do we have some help when learning a foreign language? How about learning our mother tongue.
  Come to the conclusion: Learning a foreign language is more efficient.
