Step1. Free talk
‘Good afternoon, boys and girls. I am your new teacher. First let me introduce myself. My name is Eileen. I come from Luhe. Nice to meet you!’ (Ss: Nice to meet you)
‘Now I want to know some of you’. Ask several students some questions, such as, what’s your name? What’s your hobby? It’s a sunny day today, do you any plans to go out?....
Step2.Lead in
‘I have a son. He is two years old. It’s a fine day. He wants to go to Hongshan zoo. So he is reading a map. But he doesn’t know how to read a map. Would you please help him?’
Step3. Presentation
‘First, he finds some road signs on the map, please teach him one by one.’ Show the pictures of the road signs. (turn left, turn right, straight on….) Ask several students to say them one by one, then revise them together.
‘Now, let’s play a game. It’s called ‘magic eyes’. I’ll give you one minute t look at the map carefully, you try to remember the signs on the map.’ One minute later, asdents to tell his/her classmates what sign he/she can remember. If the first one cannot, ask another one to instead.
Step4.Presentation
‘My son finds three ways t go to the zoo, only one way is corret. Look at the following maps carefully, listen to the dialogue. Help him find the correct answer.’
Ask one student to give the answer, and try to show the way on the map again. Tell students to remenber the sentences to give directions.
Asdents to look at mapA and mapB again, comepare two maps, find out the differences between them.
‘My son also wants to go to the museum. He doesn’t know the way, either. But he finds three maps.’ Asdents to look at the maps, and read the instructions. They can discuss if they don’t understand the instructions. The answer is ‘Map C’.
Then ask another two students to say something about mapA and map B.
