  Teaching Objectives: The students will be able to
   find the meaning of the new words by using context and pictures.
   express their opinions about the writer’s trip plan or preparation of their dream trip.
  Teaching Time: 45 min.
  Teaching Aids: computer, overhead projector, atlas and maps  
  Teaching Procedures:
  Pre-reading
  The Ss talk briefly about their travel experiences and lead into the topic. .
  Q1. Have you done some traveling?
  Q2. Where have you been?
  Q3. How did you go there?
  Q4. Have you thought of going there by bike? 
  While-reading:
  Step 1: The Ss find the main idea of the text by looking at the title and subtitles.
  Q1. What does the text mainly talt?       (A journey (down the Mekong))
  [Q2. What can you learn about the journey from the title?  (Prediction)]
  Q3. What does part 1 mainly talt? (No. The dream and the plan.)
  Q4. Does this journal have only 1 part? (At least 2.)
  Step 2: The Ss read for general information.
  Q1. What were the dream and the plan?  (Taking a great bike trip and cycling along the entire Mekong River.)
  Q2. Who had the dream? (Wang Kun and Wang Wei.)
  Q3. Who made the plan? (Wang Wei.)
  Main idea:
  What does Para. 1 mainly talt?   (Wang Kun and Wang Wei’s dream and their plan.)
  Step 3: The Ss read for detailed information of Para. 2.
  Q1. What is Wang Kun’s attitude towards Wang Wei? (He is fond of his sister.)
  Q2. What kind of person is Wang Wei?  (She can be stubborn.)
  Q3. Who eventually planned the trip?        (Wang Wei.)
  Step 4: The Ss read for the meaning of the new words.
  What does “stubborn” mean?
  1. Underline the sentence with “stubborn.”
  2. Underline the words that ma think so.
  (She can be really stubborn. Although she didn’t know…, she insisted she organize …, determined, would not change her mind,)
  Main idea:
  What does Para. 2 mainly talt?  
  (Their different attitudes towards the plan and how the plan came true.)
  Step 5: The Ss read for detailed information of Para. 3.
