Writing:Make a Better Passage
Type of Lesson: Writing
Class: Class 3, Grade 3
Teaching objectives:
By the end of the lesson, the students will be able to:
1. be aware of using the proper phrases and sentences in writing.
2. be aware of using the proper links in writing.
3. help the students improve writing skills in cooperation.
Teaching procedures:
Procedures Teacher’s Activities Students’ Activities Purposes
Stage 1 (5’) Step1 T shows two examples of descriptions to lead to the title of the lesson: make a better passage and arouses Ss’ attention to the importance of phrases and coherence in writing. Ss read two examples and try to analyze which one is better. Later, Ss should listen to the teacher’s explanations. To lead the students into the topic and arouse their attention.
Stage 2 (30’) Step 1 T gets Ss to read the instructions of the writing task and write down the phrases of the writing. Ss read the instructions and write down the phrases of the writing. To find the key points and details of this writing.
Step 2 T gets Ss to discuss the phrases and improve their phrases. Ss recall the phrases and make notes on the handout. To prepare them to use the necessary phrases to improve the passage
Step 3 T gets Ss to use the phrases to describe the pictures. Ss think and make sentences to describe each picture. To get the students to experience using words to make sentences.
Step 4 T gets Ss to discuss in pairs and try to improve each others. Ss discuss and make notes. To encourage students to write better sentences.
Step5 T gets Ss to share in a group and make the best passage of this writing. Ss share their ideas about how to improve their writing. To consolidate the knowledge of writing and have a sense of cooperation.
Stage 3 (10’) Step 1 T gets Ss to show their Group Report and tells them to improve a passage by adding linking words and possible details. Ss finish the exercise on the handout in groups. To get the students to practice and consolidate what is learnt in class.
Step 2 T shows Ss a better passage. Ss share in groups and discuss why it is a better one. To get the students to know what makes a better passage.
Assignment Improve their compositions by what they have learnt in this class.
