  A
He’s an old cobbler(修鞋匠) with a shop in the Marais, a historic area in Paris. When I took him my shoes, he at first told me, “I haven’t time. Take them to the other fellow on the main street. He’ll fix them for you right away.”
But I had my eyes on his shop for a long time. Just looking at his bench loaded with tools and pieces of leather, I knew he was a skilled craftsman(手艺人). “No.” I replied, “The other fellow can’t do it well.”
“The other fellow” was one of those shopkeepers who fix shoes and make keys — without knowing much about mending shoes or making keys. They work carelessly, and when they have finished sewing back a sandal strap(鞋带), you might as well just throw away the pair.
My man saw I wouldn’t give in, and he smiled. He wiped hands on his blue apron(围裙), looked at my shoes, had me write my name on one shoe with a piece of chalk and said, “Come back On Christmas morning, I went to the Cockhedge Mall. People there were all busy buying their last minute requirements. I needed to buy a birthday card for my son-in-law whose birthday is the 29th of December. Picp a few more things as well as my cared I went to join the line for the express checkout which was for people who only had a few items in a basket and not a trolley load. This line was next to the Customer Service desk.
Seemingly waiting quite a long time, I was jogged out of my thoughts by a voice behind me making comments on the things I bought.
It was so funny when I realized that she was describing the contents of my basket. The owner of the voice was a very pretty young lady. I said to her that I was going to buy a box of Christmas coot the only ones left were not to my liking. The lady told me that just opposite Cockhedge in Superdrug they had lots of cookies. I said, “I’m not going to bother now. I had enough of shops and I’m going home.”
The assistant from the Customer Service came across at this time saying “If there is anyone in     How would you like to come home after a long day, open the door, and walk into an elephant? That’s what you would do if you lived in Elephant House in Margete, New Jersey. The elephant-shaped house was built in 1881 by James Lafferty. In 1962, Herbert Green built a chicken-shaped house.
Sarah Winchester tried to build a ghost-proof house in San Jose California. Worilt fake chimneys, doors that open onto blank walls and stairs that lead nowhere. Many rooms were torn down and then rebuilt in a new way to confuse the ghosts. It took 38 years to complete the house!
Some houses are built of strange materials. A house in Pigeon Cove, Massachusetts, is built of more than 100,000 newspapers. In Canada, George Pat built a house entirely out of bottles.
My father was a foreman of a sugar-cane plantation in Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico. My first job was to drive the oxen that ploughed the cane fields. I would walk behind an ox, guiding him with a broomstick. For $ 1 a day, I worked eight hours straight, with no food breaks.
It was very tedious wort it prepared me for life and taught me many lasting lessons. Because the plantation owners were always watching us, I had to be on time every day and work as hard as I could. I’ve never been late for any job since. I also learned about being respectful and faithful to the people you work for. More important, I earned my pay; it never entered my mind to say I was sicst because I didn’t want to work.
I was only six years old, but I was doing a man’s job. Our family needed every dollar we could mase my father never earned more than $ 18 a weer home was a three-room wood shack with a dirty floor and no toilet. Nothing made me prouder For Senior 3 students, choosing which college to attend can be the most exciting and thrilling time in their entire school lives. This is also true for an American girl named Melanie in the film, College Road Trip, which was released in the US on March 7.
Melanie's dad, James Porter, is the chief of police for a Chicago suburb.Incredibly security obsessed(困扰), he wants Melanie to attend nearby Northwestern University, where she's already been accepted. But Melanie, 17, really wants to go to Georgetown in Washington,  D.C., where she's been wait-listed.
When she gets an unexpected interview, she decides to take a road trip with a few close female friends.Melanie believes it is her first step toward adulthood. But despite the fact that this trip is "girls only", James isn't comfortable with the prospect of his little princess exploring the world without, him.
  He wants to protect her.
There are a lot of things that happen to me in China but would certainly never happen in the US. One of those things is being called “strong”.
The first time was last December. I was walking across the high school campus in Guangzhou where I taught when a student in a gray scarf waved hello. I smiled and waved bact then she stopped and called my name. “You’re so strong!” She smiled and pointed at what appeared to be my arm.
I looked down at my arms. let’s get one thing clear: I’m a very sy. Once, while rehearsing for a high school talent show, I was told by the teacher in charge that I couldn’t participate in the men’s shirtless dance routine because my visible rig cage(胸腔) would frighten the audience.
“I’m so what?” “You’re so strong!” she repeated. “Um, thanks!” I didn’t know what else to say, so we both waved goodbye.
The next morning I stepped into my oral English classroom only to be greeted instantly by a A week ago, I had the great pleasure of reading an e-book, When Money Talks, Listen! By Rich Ezzo. It took only about an hour to read.
When I first received a copy, I thought it was a Get Rich Quick type of publication. Nothing is wrong with Get Rich Quict my mind just doesn’t chase after dreams of wealth. I think that if God ever wants me to be rich, he knows where to find my purse.
When I began reading When Money Talks, Listen!, I was overjoyed to find that Rich Ezzo isn’t money hungry either. He, too, is hungry far more important than money.
Since I love this e-booch, why wait a week to write the review? Simple. I wanted to see if the effect it had on me was a keeper. After reading the last word of the e-book, I totally agreed with the subtitle which promised to forever change the way we thought about money. I had so many thoughts running around my mind that I had t The singer, Mick Jagger, of the Rolling Stones sings a song that tells people they can’t always get what they want but if we try sometimes we can get what we need. The past years in my life my parents have told me this saying many times. I’ve always complained about the quote(引语). Although over time I have told myself to learn from it.
This year my girlfriend flew off to college in West Palm, Florida. This has been a killer for me because I haven’t been able to see her and she is having a rough time in school. The last two months have been hard but we are working through it. I have been trying to get my dad to buy me a plane ticket to go down there. My dad told me if I brought him some money he would help me pay for the ticket. I started to complain to him because I had no way of getting any money to give him. I spent Paragraph 1
Scientists have learned a lot about the kinds of food people need. They say that there are several kinds of food that people should eat every day. They are: (1) green and yellow vegetables of all kinds. (2) citrus(柑桔) fruits and tomatoes; (3) potatoes and other fruits and vegetables; (4) meat of all kinds, fish and eggs; (5) milk and foods made from milk; (6) bread or cereal(谷类), rice is also in this kind of food; (7) butter, or something litter.
  Paragraph 2
People in different countries and different places of the world eat different kinds of things. Foods are cooked and eaten in many different kinds of ways. People in different countries eat at     A primary school teacher who left a class of 25 pupils in tears after she told them Santa Claus did not exist has been fired. When excited youngsters became rowdy as they talt Santa, the supply teacher said out suddenly, "It's your parents who leave out presents on Christmas Day."
The class of seven-year-olds at Blackshaw Lane Primary School, Royton, Greater Manchester burst into tears and told their parents when they arrived home. Mothers and fathers then complained about the incident and were sent a letter by the school saying the teacher, who only worked at the school for one day last week, has been punished.
The school has now said it will not hire her again.
One father said, "My son came home and said that his teacher had told the class that Santa doesn't exist and it’s their mum and dad that put out presents for them. Obviously, they were all talking about Christmas and being a bit rowdy. She just came straight out with it. "
Eat nuts every day, and you will keep heart disease away.
This is the conclusion some medical researchers have recently reached after a six - year study on 34,000 people in California with focus on their dietary habits and heart diseases.
Compared with someone who never cares for nuts, the one who eats nuts such as peanuts and  walnuts (胡桃) at least once a day has only 47 per cent chance of having heart trouble, according to one of the researchers.
Another report states that 60 per cent of all those who eat nuts regularly like to chew peanut either during or between meals.
This led the researchers to believe that the more regularly one sticks to the habit of eating nuts, the less will be his chance of getting heart disease.
To complete a study, a team of scientists left Boston and went halfway around the world to the middle of Kenya. They wanted to find out more about barefoot running.
Sure, people can run barefoot anywhere. But Kenya has produced some of the most famous long-distance runners in history, and many of these athletes grew up not wearing shoes.Scientist Daniel Lieberman visited some of these runners to figure out what a difference shoes make.
It was a big difference, and not necessarily for the better. In particular, when a bare foot hits the ground, the blow(冲击) is softer and the running motion is smoother.Running barefoot may have advantages over running with shoes on, though more studies are needed to determine whether or not barefoot running reduces the chance of injures.
One shouldn't be scared of barefoot running or think it strange, Lieberman told Science News. It's normal and, if done properly, it is very fun and comfortable.
In the past ten years, America's National Basketball Association (NBA) has grown
increasingly dependent on the rest of the world to supply players.
When Michael Jordan and Larry Bird won gold in Barcelona in 1992, the Americans were praised for teaching the world how to play basketball. This season, however; 20 percent of NBA rosters(花名册)will be filled by non-Americans. NBA commissioner David Stem happily
embraces the trend. On a visit to Paris in October, Stern outlined his vision for the future; which is
likely to see Europe hosting NBA games by 2010.
The NBA is now planning to take China by storm
"Our experience in china has been that it is going to be explosive in its growth," said Stern.
The strategy(战略,策略)in China is television. "We’ve made 14 deals in China with local and
national networks on cable and satellite." The success of Chinese centre Yao Ming has paved the
