It should come as no surprise that kids are spending a lot of time in front of screens. According to a new study, teens aged from 13 to 18 spend an average of six and a half hour each day watching TV or using a digital device. Here are some truths and some myths(谬见) that the study showed:
Truth 1: Some teens spend too much time looking at screens.
One in five teens views more than six hours of screen media each day, and 18% of teens are looking at their screens for more than 10 hours a day.

While the average time young people spend reading, either in print or on a screen, is only 30 minutes per day, most kids who took part in the survey say reading is one of their favorite activities.
Truth 2: Boys prefer video games; girls prefer social media.
Among teen boys, 71% enjoy playing video games, twice as many as teen girls. Teen girls, meanwhile, spend about 40 minutes more each day on social media than boys do.
Myth 2: TV and music have been put aside.
For teens, TV is still the top media activity. They enjoy it the most and watch it every day. For teens, music is the main form of entertainment. Most teens listen to it on their smartphones.

Smart people may be far happier alone than meeting friends. A new study has found that for intelligent people, the more frequently they socialize with friends, the less satisfied they are with life.
The findings come from two psychologists who challenge the modern view that the more social contact we have, the happier we are likely to be. Satoshi Kanazawa of the London School of Economics and Norman Li of Singapore Management University suggest that the main social skills developed in our ancient past still have an important effect on our happiness today. They think that the ‘savannah theory’(草原理论) is at the root of modern happiness. This theory states that the factors which made early humans satisfied are still true in modern life.
