Jeffrey P.Bezos, the founder, president and chairman of the board of Amazon.com,was born in Albuquerque,New Mexico. His mother's ancestors were early settlers in Texas, and over the generations had acquired a 25,000 acre farm at Cotulla.Jeffrey spent most summers of his youth working with his grandfather on their farm.
Jeffrey showed intense and varied scientific interests at an early age.He set up an electric alarm to keep his younger sisters and brothers out of his room and changed his parents' garage into a laboratory for his science projects.
After he graduated from Princeton University with a degree in computer science and electrical engineering,Jeff Bezos found employment on Wall Street, where computer science was increasingly in demand to study market trends. He rose quickly, becoming a senior Vice President, and looked forward to a bright career in finance, when he made a discovery that changed his life, and the course of business history.
In 1994,there was still no Internet commerce to speak of.One day that spring,Jeffrey Bezos observed that Internet usage was increasing by 2,300 percent a year.He saw an opportunity for a new circle of commerce, and immediately began considering the possibilities.
Bezos founded Amazon.com in l994,setting up the original company in his garage. The company was called Amazon for the seemingly endless South American river with its numberless branches. It started as an online bookstore but soon diversified to all kinds of products. His work with Amazon eventually led him to become one of the most excellent dot-com entrepreneurs(企业家).He was named Time magazine's Person of the Year in 1999.In 2008,he was selected by U.S.News & World Report as one of America's Best Leaders.Bezos'Amazon has become the “Earth's biggest anything store”.Amazon.com is now called “one of the smartest strategies in business history”.
Today,Jeff Bezos lives north of Seattle and is increasingly concerned with charity activities.“Giving away money takes as much attention as building a successful company,”he has said.

Do you think Great Britain and the United States are alike?Winston Churchill once joked that the people of Britain and the people of America are separated(分离的)only by their language. Do you think that is true? The British and the Americans both speak English as the official language. However, each uses some different words. We Americans are similar to the Britain. After all,our country was once owned by Great Britain,so we have a lot in common. But there are many differences between us.
Great Britain has a king or queen, and the leader of the government is the Prime Minister. The United States has no kings or queens. Our leader is the President.
Both the British and Americans use pounds and ounces, pints, quarts, and gallons. Both use miles, yards, and feet. Our money is different, though. The British use pounds and pence. Americans use dollars and cents.
Driving in a car is very different in England. They drive on the left side of the road. We drive on the right. What we call the hood of the car,the British call the “bonnet”.British cars run on “petrol”,which we call gasoline.
In our everyday lives,we do many of the same things as the British. But we describe them differently.A young mother here might push a baby in a baby carriage.A British mom pushes a“pram”.The British watch the“telly”,while we watch TV.We like to eat French fries, but the British call them “chips”.Millions of Americans drink coffee, but most British prefer tea.
So we are different in many ways. But we stay friendly anyway.

It is now February 7,2035.The search engine TalkTalk will open to the public next week and this service will be something beyond your imagination. For the first time you can not only talk to the search engine, but you can discuss with it what you are looking for.
For example,if you want to know more about the oil price,TalkTalk asks if you want to know the current oil price, the development of the oil price,or news related to the oil price. You say that you want to read news about it and TalkTalk as if you prefer a certain source.TalkTalk then directs you to your source,or lets you have the latest news related to the oil price in order from the most respected sources.
Compared with other search services that use a certain algorithm(程序)to provide data from a search, the artificial intelligence behind TalkTalk is said to easily spot if a certain source is aiming to cheat the searcher.TalkTalk also judges and stores every given reply and discussion,to learn how to give correct answers.TalkTalk is also set to answer questions directly where there is a definite answer. How well this will work in the long run is yet to be seen, but thousands of people have tested TalkTalk and the quality is really good.
The first talking search engine saw the light of day more than 30 years ago and was called Speegle. It could read you the results from a written search on the Internet, and was mostly for blind people.
So far,TalkTalk can not read the information from a certain source to you by phone,if it is not freely available. There are currently talks to find an arrangement for this, but it would most likely be difficult because of copyright(版权).
TalkTalk is available over the Internet and also by phone, even though it only speaks English. There are no plans to add other languages in the near future, most likely because it will cost a lot of money. When you are tired of asking TalkTalk all your questions, just ask,“Where is TalkTalk?” and you will get an answer that will ma leave it with a smile on your lips.
1.The example in Paragraph 2 is given to show ________.
A.how to use the search engine TalkTalk
B.how to search for news on the Internet
C.the oil price is a very hot issue currently
D.TalkTalk has a very high intelligence
2.The advantage of TalkTatk is that it can ________.
A.be available wherever you go
B.tell if a certain source is reliable
