Lesson 1 A Material World
学情分析:
本班学生为我校的教学平行班的学生。学生的英语水平参差不齐,课堂投入度较好。在英语学习中,阅读能力强于口头及书面表达能力。班中多数学生偏喜爱理科, 思维活跃,对于英语学习有一定兴趣。但在英语表达准确性上有所欠缺。

Step1

Step2:
Pre-reading
Asdents to read two brief introductions of two millionaires Students read two brief introductions of two millionaires and answer some questions. To lead students to being involved in the topic
Step3:
Extensive reading 1. Asdents to judge true, false or no information on the given statements according to the passage. Students read the text quickly and finish the exercise. To help students get the general idea of the text.
2. Ask Ss to a word match exercise Students do the word- match exercise. To let students practice guessing words according to the passage and help students overcome the difficulties in vocabulary.
Step4:
Intensive reading
1 Ask Ss to read the text again and to do a multiple choice exercise. Students read the text again and make choices according to the passage. To help students do some further thinking about the passage itself and money.
2. Asdents to paraphrase the words and phrases. Students find out the phrases from the text and paraphrase them To help students understand the meaning of the phrases and know how to use them.
3. Asdents to finish a short passage with the help of the words and phrases they learned today. Students fill in the blanks according to the text and finish a short passage. To help students have a flashback of the content of the passage and prepare for the talk on how to use money wisely.
Step5: Post-reading
Asdents to discuss with their partners on how to use money wisely. Students have a talk on the topic “How to use my money wisely”. To help students do some further thinking about money and help them build up proper attitude towards money.

I. Read the following passages and answer the questions.
William Henry "Bill" Gates III (born October 28, 1955) is an American business magnate, philanthropist, author, and chairman of Microsoft, the software company he founded with Paul Allen. He is ranked consistently one of the world's wealthiest people and the wealthiest overall as of 2009. During his career at Microsoft, Gates held the positions of CEO and chief software architect, and remains the largest individual shareholder with more than 8 percent of the common stock. He has also authored or co-authored several books.
Li Ka Shing, (李嘉诚; born July 29, 1928).According to Forbes Magazine he is also the richest person of Chinese descent in the world, and the 10th richest man in the world. Presently, he is the Chairman of Cheung Kong Holdings in Hong Kong. Considered one of the most powerful figures in Asia, Li was named "Asia's Most Powerful Man" by Asia Week in 2000. On March 9, 2006, Forbes ranked him as 10th richest man in the world at US$18.8 billion; he has since gained one rane to the death of Kenneth Thomson. In spite of his wealth, Li has a reputation for leading a no-frills lifestyle, and is known to wear cheap shoes and plastic watches.
