Step 1: Study Objectives
1. To enjoy a very interesting story by knowing the bacnd, reading the passage and
understanding some complex sentences.
2. To know the meaning of some new words (invasion, assumption, vanguard, hysteria and so on) by reading, and try to use them by completing the task.
3. To practice some reading micro-skills, such as detailed reading and translating, during reading and the process of completing the task.
Step 2: Leading in & While-reading (knowing the bacnd of the story)
1. Many people believe there are aliens and there are many science fictions about it;
2. Pictures about the movie The War of the Worlds;
3. Bacnd of the movie (also the story in the text)
In 1898, the English writer H. G. Wells wrote what is arguably the most important novel in the history of science fiction The War of the Worlds. It is a dramatic story about an invasion of the Earth by aliens from Mars, a subject that has fascinated science fiction writers and film-makers ever since.
Which is wrong? B
A. Not all people regard The War of the Worlds as the most important science fiction in history.
B. The novel is really boring.
C. The two worlds at war in the story were Mars and the Earth.
D. Many science fiction writers have created novels according to this novel and many film-makers have made movies of it.

【设计说明】这个导入没有沿用以往的形式。文章前两句是整个故事的背景,也是导入提到的由《世界大战》改编的电影的背景,所以完全可以提出来作为欣赏视频、激发兴趣之前的知识性铺垫。
设置一个细节阅读题,目的在于通过对于原文的改写和简化长难句,帮助学生猜测生词含义、理解长难句,降低阅读的难度。
【评价说明】能够选择出正确答案,代表学生能够正确理解这两句话,也能够猜出arguably, dramatic, invasion的意思,只需总结生词意思并领读来巩固即可。如果不能选出正确答案,就要带领学生回到原文重新理解,并且解释生词含义。
Step 3: Task
Suppose you were aliens from Mars. You got to know that human beings were frightened about your coming on the Earth. In fact, you are here to make friends with human beings, but not to invade.
So make an announcement through the radio broadcast to let human beings not be afraid and r purpose of coming.
利用What should you say on the radio?这个问题来引发学生关于如何完成任务的思考,过渡到阅读环节上。
Step 4: Reading and preparations for the task
1. Read the rest part of paragraph 1 and answer the two questions.
1) Did Orson Welles write the novel The War of the Worlds?
2) Did he know what impact he was going to make before he broadcast the radio drama?
No. Little did he know what impact he was going to make.
For the task 我们绝不会侵略地球。Never will we invade the Earth.
【评价说明】该环节更多关注的是目标一中的语言技能目标:能从一般性文章中获取和处理主要信息,以及目标一中的语言知识目标:使用适当的语言形式进行描述和表达观点、态度和情感。通过回答问题和例句翻译,使学生们理解文章并且回顾学过的部分倒装。
