Step one Revision and lead-in
T: Yesterday, we talt qualities of a good friend. What makes good friends?
We know, there’s a writing competition in Teenagers magazine. Can you write about your best friend? This class, let’s read three entries as a model.
Step two Reading
Task 1 Fast reading
What are the names of the writers’ best friends?
Task 2 While-reading
1. Match the names with the three photos and describe their looess the meaning of the new word “fit”.
2. Find the information about the three students’ personalities, guess the meanings of “willing, generous, have a good sense of humour, bored, sweet, smile” from the context.
3. Complete Part B1 on p.9. and check the answers.
4. Do some true or false questions (Group competition) .
5. Complete Part B2 on p.9.
Task 3 Post-reading
1. The students read an Aesop fable “Two men and a bear”.
A question: Is the thinner man the fat man’s true friend?
The thinner man is not the fat man’s true friend. When the fat man was in danger, his friend didn’t help him but ran away. A friend in need is a friend indeed. So, when our friends are in danger or in need, we should do our best to help them. We should not be selfish.
2. Complete Part B4 on p.10.
T: We can see, Betty, Max and May all have good qualities. They’re the writers’ true friends. Will you choose them as your best friend? Who will you choose and why?
3. A guessing game
The students describe their friends’ looks and ask others to guess: Who is he/she? Then describe their qualities and some related details.
