Unit 9 Lesson 4 Car Culture
the second period—vocabulary
Teaching goals:
1. Help the students to master the basic usages of the phrases and words.
2. Study further on some of them.
3. During learning process, develop Ss speaking and translating abilities.
4. Teaching Aids:
Computer.
Teaching Process:
Step 1. Getting ready for Vocabulary learning. (Finish Task 1)
1. Ask Ss to pick up the phrases and words from the text which have the same meanings as the following definitions.
2. Check the answers.
Step 2. Basic learning. (Finish Task 2 )
1. Fill in the blanks with the correct forms of the vocabulary they have just pict.
2. Check the answers and make some explanation if necessary.
Step 3. Detailed learning. ( Finish Task 3)
1. get stuck…
① Observe the sentence and summarise the formation of the pattern: get + p.p, then immitate the example to write down their own’s. Anyone who gets the same one as the teacher’s can get a small prize.
Through some sentence making exercise, help Ss to master the pattern.
② Look at other sentences and draw conclusions on the structures: get + adj. and get + object+p.p.
Write down some other phrases with these patterns.
Look at the pictures to make some sentences with the patterns.
2. compare… to/ and/ with…
① Put the exanple sentences into Chinese.
② Put the Chinese sentences into English and do a small Multiple Choice exercise.
3. go up by & go up to
Present the example sentences and draw Ss’ attention to the different prepositions. With the help of the blank filling exercise, get across the difference between by and to.
4. occupy
Help Ss translate the sentences into Chinese and show them other phrases related to occupy.
By writing some sentences, guide Ss to know how to use them.
Step 4. Practise. (Finish Task 4.)
Complete the passage with the vocabulary Ss have just learned, pay attention to the forms fo them.
Step 5. Further practise. ( If time is limited, leave it as assignment)
