  Teaching Plan for Special Topic: Proofreading
  Lecturer: Xie Rongji
  ◎Three dimensional teaching aims:
  Knowledge aims:
  1. Let the Ss know about proofreading, especially its types of mistaking.
  2. Make the Ss know the way to wort proof reading.
  Ability aims:
  1. Develop the Ss’ ability of finding out mistakes.
  2. Encourage the Ss to spot the relation between proofreading and composition, training their ability of comparison.
  3. Enable the Ss to obtain knowledge by researching, cooperating and experiencing.
  Emotional aims:
  1. Help the Ss to realize everyone will make mistakes however great he /she is. When we make mistakes, don’t be too nervous.
  2. Make the Ss realize it is what we can do that matters not what we worry about if we meet difficulty.
  ◎Teaching emphasis:
  Master main mistakes appearing in the text and grasp the methods to correct them.
  ◎Teaching aids:
  Chalk board, Multi-media, printed exercise materials
  ◎Teaching process:
  Step I. Lead in (3 minutes)
  1. Ask the Ss some questions about the mistakes appearing in their life. (Presenting the questions on the screen or asking the questions one by one)
  (1) Have you made any mistakes in the last few months?
  (2) If so, what will you do when facing the mistakes?
  (3) And do you think there is a man who has never made mistakes so far?
  (4) Do you consider it serious if you make a mistake?
  2. Let the Ss have a discussion in pairs and draw the following conclusion:
  In our daily life, everyone will make a mistake, if we correct them in time , we are good fellows.
  We make progress in the process of making mistakes, finding out mistakes and correct mistakes.
  Step II. Presentation (7 minutes)
  T: In our daily life, everyone will make a mistake, if we correct them in time, we are good fellows. And also when we are using a language, we may make some mistakes. Do you want to correct them?
  S:…
  T: Ok, please remember “One learns a language by making mistakes and correct them”. Today we are going to learn “how to do proof reading.(show this topic on the slide)”
  1. Give the following sentences on the slide:
  ① It’s a great fun.
  ② I’ll do best to help you.
  ③ There are 70% of the students agree to this opinion.
  ④ The firefighters put off the fire quickly.

  2. Analyinds of mistakes appearing in these sentences.

  3. Show the following table on the slide and let the Ss know about what kinds of grammar mistakes often appear in proof reading of NMET2009-2015.

  From the chart above the Ss can easily find which types are often tested, the Teacher leads the S to realize how many mistaking types according to the chart, and know that grammar is very important indeed.
  Step III. Practice (12 minutes)
  The day before yesterday I told you to write a short composition, do you remember? I’ve evaluated all of your homework. Now I choose one of your compositions as our proofreading material. Of course I’ve polished your composition to meet the need of “proofreading”, that is, one is correct, and the rest belong to wrong words, missing words, and unnecessary words, only one mistake each line excluding a correct one.
  Give the passage on the slide and ask the students to discuss it.
