T:In the 20th century, the world changed completely. What led to the changes?
Ss: Discoveries.
T: (Show the Ss some pictures.)
Please name the discoveries in the pictures.
Ss: ……. All the questions and pictures help the Ss lead in some related information about the text. Have a discussion and description of the pictures in pairs.
T: Can you single out the most important one. (The phrase “single out” means “pict.”)
Ss: (They show different opinions.)
Conclusion 1:
T: If you had to singe out the most important discoveries, you would have a real dilemma. (Explain the meaning of dilemma.)
T: What can we single out?
Get the Ss to show their ideas individually and arrive at a conclusion together. Make individual presentation.

Show the Ss the reading strategy for identifying the general idea.
Conclusion 2:
