To read out sentences with appropriate sentence stress
To express agreement and disagreement with other people’s opinions towards heroes more freely
To acknowledge the value of heroes
Activity One: Sentence Stress
Step One: Identify sentence stress
Write the following sentences on the black board
1. I want to go to China.
2. He dislikes it.
3. Will you sell my car because I’ve gone to France.
Ss will be asked to read the sentences by themselves in pairs or groups and read out the sentences aloud in front of the class. Different types of stresses are encouraged. For example, logical stress.
To make Ss aware of the phenomenon of sentence stress. Do not hurry to correct if any mistakes happen.
Step Two
Ask Ss to look at the sample on the book and analyze the sentence stress in front of the class. Then ask Ss to read out loud and find out the stress in the other sentences in pairs or groups. Check the answers.
Ss will be encouraged to follow the example given when deciding where to put the stress. Teacher may encourage Ss to find out the rules if they can.
To make Ss aware of the possible existence of grammar rules behind the phenomenon of sentence stress and make them interested in finding out the rules by working together under the guidance of the teacher.
Step Three
Ask Ss to fill in the table of content words and structure words and maess about the rules.
