  第三讲:诗歌欣赏 Poetry
  Step1: Lead-in 
  1. Invite one student to read the following Chinese poem.
  《菩萨蛮》
  唐 温庭筠
  小山重叠金明灭,鬓云欲度香腮雪。懒起画蛾眉,弄妆梳洗迟。
  照花前后镜,花面交相映。新帖绣罗襦,双双金鹧鸪
  2. Listen to this song together.
  Step2: Reading
  1. Listen to the song When I was one-and-twenty.
  2. Read the poem aloud together and thint the following questions.
  1) Why does the poet use ‘one-and-twenty’ instead of ‘twenty-one’?
  2) What do the words ‘ crowns’ ‘pounds’ ‘guineas’ ‘pearls’ and ‘rubies’ represent?
  3) What do the words ‘one-and-twenty’ and ‘two-and-twenty’ stand for?
  4) What is you feeling about this poem?
  3. Let several students to answer the questions.
  Present the possible feelings.
  eg. 1) The young men are always stubborn and rebellious. They are always unwilling to accept the suggestions from their elders.
  2) Time and tide wait for no man.
  3) Unrestrained (放纵的) love only bring about sorrow and regret.
  Step3: Language points
  Learn the important words and phrases and translate some sentences to consolidate what has learnt.
  1) give away 赠送,分发;泄露
  他正在无偿赠送他的收藏。
  He was giving his collection away for free.
  请不要说出我的秘密。
  Please don't give my secret away!
  2) fancy  n.想象力;v.想要,想做;竟然
  老师的故事激发了学生的想象力。
  The teacher’s story excited the fancy of the pupils.
  你想要一杯啤酒吗?
  Do you fancy a glass of beer?
  真没想到你认识他!
  Fancy you knowing him!
  Step4: Reading
  1. Listen to the tape and read after the tape.
  2. Present the relevant bacnd information.
  This poem was written in 1893 by William Butler Yeats.
  The poet declared love for Maud Gonne many times, but he never got her response. So Yeats wrote this poem and imaged that when reading this poem by chance many years later the woman could realize his eternal love.
  3. Read the poem and thint the following questions.
  1) Which words rhymed in this poem?
  2) What details reveal that the woman is old and clumsy?
  3) How does the poem show his love is eternal?
  4. Let several students to present their answers.
  Step5: Language points
  Learn the important words and phrases and translate some sentences to consolidate what has learnt.
  1) in vain 无效地,徒然,白费力
  他们极力劝说她去,但枉费了一番口舌。
  They tried in vain to persuade her to go.
  2) pace v.踱步; n. 一步,步速,节奏
  他发现约翰正在房子里四下踱步,无法入眠。
  He found John pacing around the house, unable to sleep.
  当今, 随着科技进步, 生活节奏不断增快。
  Today, the pace of life is increasing with technological advancements.
  Step6: Poetry Recitation Contest
  Organize a poetry recitation contest and the winner will get an award.
