[词语辨析] object, oppose, protest
(1)object 常指口头上的“反对”;“不赞成”;“不同意”某人或某事。着重“个人嫌弃”和“(由于与个人有关而)提出反对意见”
(2 ) oppose 为常用词,指“对某人、某事采取积极行动来反对”,着重动作,尤其指“反对一种观念、思想、计划等”

(3) protest 一般指通过言语、文字或行为表示强烈的抗议、反对。

6. obtain v. 获得;赢得

[词语辨析] obtain, get, acquire, gain与earn
五者都含有“获得,得到”的意思,区别如下:
(1) obtain是较正式用语, 常指“通过努力工作、奋力或请求而得到所需的东西”, 表示通过努力才得到或找到某物,比get正式,常用于正式场合。

(2) get是最普遍、使用范围最广的词,可指以任何方式得到某物,也不一定要经过努力。

(3)acquire强调“经过漫长的努力过程而逐渐获得”,指一点一点地获取的过程,这一过程是持续的,而且通常是缓慢的,如获取知识的过程。

(4) gain 指通过斗争、竞争或付出劳动而获得某种优势或达到某种目的。其宾语通常是经验、优势、利益、好处等。

7. forbid vt. 禁止;不准

8. accumulate vt. 积累;聚集 vi. 增加

[词语辨析] gaher, collect, accumulate
(1) gather 将分散的东西聚在一起,普通用词。
(2) collect 指为某一目的用心收集,且加以整理。
(3) accumulate 指东西的聚集成群,经过一段比较长的时间由少到多的积累。

owe sb. a favour 欠某人人情
favour sb. with sth. 为某人做某事
e.g. I have told her about our plan, and she is in favour of it.
